The kit arrives on a truck. The setback does not care. Permit-exempt sheds still have to sit a stated distance from property lines and, often, from the house. People skip this because the structure is small. Inspectors do not.

Size thresholds

You will hear 120 square feet and 200 square feet. Both appear in real U.S. municipal codes. Measure the exterior footprint. Adding a porch or a lean-to can cross the line. Electricity or plumbing usually pulls a permit even when the box itself would have been exempt.
