Version 1.1

Methodology

YardPermit is built on official public datasets and does not manufacture Census numbers, FMCSA records, prices or reputation scores. These pages record how each source is handled, so a figure on the site can be traced back to a cell in a file and a line of arithmetic.

Four rules every figure follows

  1. 01

The source is named on the page

A figure names the file it came from and links to it: the Census workbook, the FMCSA open-data file or the regulation. A figure with no source is not published.

  2. 02

    Three dates are kept apart

The period the data describes, the day the agency released it, and the day YardPermit last checked for a newer release are printed separately, because a 2024 table released in 2026 and checked in September is three different facts.

  3. 03

    Uncertainty stays attached

Every Census estimate carries its 90% margin of error, and a difference between two estimates is tested against the margin of that difference before the page claims a direction.

  4. 04

    Derivations are shown, not summarized

Ranks, shares, the 110% delivery figure and storage ranges are printed with the formula that produced them, from calculation modules that have their own tests, so a reader can redo the arithmetic by hand.

How each source is handled

  • Mover data

The FMCSA Company Census File queried live, the MOTUS authority history, the cached subset and when it may be used.

  • Migration data

The ACS 2024 state-to-state table, its margins of error, the difference test, and what the statistic is not.

  • Quote calculations

The 110% delivery figure, deposits, comparisons and storage ranges: the rules each calculation applies and the versions of the modules.

  • Publication gate

Which state pairs are ranked, what the gate actually excludes, and why corridor and company pages stay out of search.

Current state of the data

Migration figures come from the State-to-State Migration Flows: 2024 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates (Table T13), released Jan 21, 2026 and last checked for a newer vintage on Sep 7, 2026. Mover records are read from FMCSA at the moment of each lookup, from a file FMCSA last updated on Sep 5, 2026 when this site last observed it. Corrections go through the contact page: the source file is checked first, and a page is changed only where it differs from that file.
