Publication gate
Every origin–destination pair can be looked up. The gate decides which pairs are ranked in the largest state-to-state moves table and counted on state hubs. A pair is ranked only when all of the following hold:
- The ACS 2024 1-year estimate is present (not N/X).
- The 90% margin of error is present.
- The reverse-direction estimate is present.
- State-centroid straight-line miles can be computed from TIGER centroids (not driving miles).
- At least five distinct facts can be stated about the pair.
- The estimate is at least 5,000 and its margin of error is no more than 50% of the estimate, so a 400-person cell with a 400-person margin of error cannot become a ranking.
Pairs ranked in the current vintage: 368.
What the gate actually excludes
In the current vintage, 2,096 pairs satisfy conditions 1–5. Of those, 368 also clear condition 6 and are ranked. The estimate floor does almost all of the work: 341 pairs fail on volume alone, only 10 clear 5,000 but fail the relative margin-of-error ceiling, and 1,377 fail both. The ceiling is kept as a published floor for the rare large but noisy cell, not as a claim that it filters heavily. These counts are computed from the ingested table at build time, so the sentence stays true when a new vintage is promoted.
Which pages are kept out of search
Most corridor lookup pages are not indexed, including pairs that are ranked. When they were measured on 11 September 2026, every pair of the 368 corridor pages then in search shared at least 59% of its three-word sequences, and about half of each page was text repeated word for word across the set. The per-pair figures on those pages are real, but a template repeated 368 times is not 368 distinct pages, so the numbers are published once, side by side, in the ranked table and on the state hubs instead. The reviewed California to Texas and New Jersey to Florida, California to New York, California to Florida, and New York to Florida briefs have their own sourced analysis and pass the rendered quality checks. This does not open the rest of the template to indexing.
Company record pages and search results are kept out of search because each is a single lookup of the FMCSA census, not an article. State mover listings are kept out because they count a filtered cache rather than the full census. Metro pages, fuel, tolls and price brackets are not generated at all; those series are not in the ingested files.
